It depends on the sittiuaon. I suppose the main things would be: 1. how cooperative have the parents been up to this point, and 2. whether or not they both truly have the child’s welfare in mind. A bitter, vindictive Ex who wanted nothing to do with the child and is filing only for the sake of revenge will most likely be rigid and uncooperative. In that case, mediation would a waste of time and money.References : Mediation is required in the county I presently live in, but I did not have to go through it because the county my Ex filed in is in a separate judicial district.
