Kebabs, Crisps, and the Inns of Court

The INADR (www.INADR.org) Orientation and trainings started yesterday. I skipped the orientation and made a long awaited jaunt to what was told to me by someone back home as ” London’s best kebab.” I found my way to 35 Queensway, Bayswater to Taza.

While, I claim no expertise in the cuisine – the lamb kebab and fresh mixed fruit juice, sitting outdoors, on a beautiful day was well worth the walk from Paddington. There is a Bayswater stop just down the block, but I have come to enjoy the walking. It may also have something to do, as well, with an unconscious need to burn calories resulting from an acquired addiction ( thanks to a recommentdation from twitter friend @PurpleSmurfLLB) to KettleOne Sea Salt and Balsamic Vinegar “crisps” which are not available in the States.

I walked back to Paddington Station and took the tube back in time for an enjoyable walking tour of the legal district. The crowd of about 75-100 broke into two groups, mine included folks from the UK, US, Germany and India.

Our first stop was Lincolns Inn (http://www.lincolnsinn.org.uk/)

From there we were guided to The Royal Courts of Justice, other Inns of tremendous historical significance — Gray’s Inn ( http://www.graysinn.info/) ; The Inn at Middle Temple (http://www.middletemple.org.uk/) ; The Inn at Inner Temple ( http://www.innertemple.org.uk/)

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and were able to share, as a group, comparisons to our home jusrisdictions and traditions. Nothing quite compares to the historical traditions of the Inns, that are still a huge part of the Brittish legal system.

A final humourous reminder of the sacredness and historical significance of the Inns is this sign.

  1. mediators do not grant divorces .only fmilay court judges .the mediator helps each side come to an agreement but can NOT order the agreement or grant divorces. The judge wants the agreement FIRST .it saves him the trouble of deciding for himself what would be best. If the mediation fails then the judge decides.References :
